Eva Mazza, owner and teacher at Eva’s School for Speech and Drama in Stellenbosch, has been given the rights to perform Richard R George's adaptation of Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".
This amateur production will be staged at the Drostdy Theatre on 20 June for two performances only (12.00 pm and 7.00pm).
Every young actor from Eva’s drama studio, ranging from Grade 3 to Grade 11 will be performing in the play. Eva believes in giving every child a chance to act – “It doesn’t matter how ‘good’ or ‘bad’ a child thinks he is. She will be given a chance to shine.”
The roles are allocated to the children in chronological order; the oldest children are given the lead roles so that each child will have a role as a lead performer during their apprenticeship at her studio.
This particular version of Charlie is adapted from the book and is geared for performances by school children.
The young actors are from Rhenish Primary and Rhenish Girls High School as well as Bridge House Preparatory and Paul Roos Gymnasium. Young Charlie Bucket, played by Elliot Cutler and Willy Wonka played by Matthew Morton are both learners at Paul Roos. The Narrator, who is an older Charlie, is played by Francois-Paul Hoogenhout Lategan from Rhenish Primary.
Come and join in the fun.
Ticket prices are R80 for the evening performance and R50 for block bookings of ten or more for the afternoon performance.
